Gratitude for the Dishwasher

I suppose it's a sign of our times that I'm compelled to post about the fact that we have been without a dishwasher for two weeks. Two weeks! Yes, I'm complaining - and I even have a helpful husband who does dishes at night and on weekends. Maybe if we cooked less or switched to paper plates (or if my belly didn't bump into the counter top when I lean over the sink) it'd make things easier. But, it was supposed to be fixed three different times, so I just kept thinking we'd be running that full load of dishes in there soon. Don't worry...we don't have stinky dishes in the washer That load has been through so many rinse cycles, the dishes are virtually clean, but they are still sitting there, nonetheless.

Anyway, we found out Tuesday after my friend from Mr. Appliance visited for the third time that we have to replace our dishwasher. It cannot be repaired. The one we want to purchase is going to take two weeks to get here. So, we wait two more weeks and do a lot more dishes.

I may not know what to do with my extra time when we have a dishwasher again! This could be one of those "gifts" that helps me to appreciate just how lucky we are now to have the technology that we do. Today, I am very, very grateful for dishwashers and for the working one that will be with us soon.

Funny, that is one appliance that I COULD do without. I don't want to, but if something has to go, I would not miss that. Call me crazy, but I LOVE to hand wash dishes.

My washing machine and dryer, well that would be a very different story.

Hope the two weeks pass quickly.

I say put Anna on the stool with a sink full of dishes and soapy water. I bet she'll play happily for a long time! Yes...I've done this. Ellie and Josie will fight over who gets to "wash" dishes sometimes. And we have a working dishwasher. (I'm with you, now that I have one, I'd be miserable without it!)

As you know, I've been without my dishwasher since early February when we had our "flood". Tonite...we pick up our new dishwasher! I'm feeling very excited and thankful for this technology too! I'll be excited when we can hook up the wash machine and dryer again too! Loads and loads of dirty clothes waiting to be done. So glad this will all be behind me in the next few days!

Our dishwasher is dying a slow death...I kind of wish it would break so we could buy a new one. Glad to hear that your days of dishpan hands are numbered. :-)
